The Verrerie a historic chateau between Sancerre and the castles of the Loire
Designated a historic monument, the Château de la Verrerie is a royal stopover just 30 km from the vineyards of Sancerre.
A small glass factory, or verrerie was erected on the edge of the lake, from which the castle takes its name. Built during the 15th and 16th centuries, including a magnificent Renaissance hall, the chateau was a royal property until Léonce de Vogüe, ancestor of the current owner, purchased it in 1842.
Modern times have brought theatrical guided tours of the castle, as well as cultural events organized with Jacques Coeur Road Association.
Rooms and suites have views of either the forest or the grounds. An 18th-century half-timbered house on the grounds is now an intimate restaurant, serving dishes using ingredients grown on the property. A royal sojourn combining elegance and the Art of Living.
